Roman Perez, Jr., the director, was wise to approach his absurd premise more as a wide farce than as a serious situation. It seemed absurd that people could still live in the mansion given that it had already been the scene of a crime (not just a robbery, but something far more horrible), therefore the police had to be used as comedic relief. The ethically dubious conclusion is troubling, but Perez might have gone further in terms of female empowerment and poetic justice if Ellie and Gabby had interacted more cooperatively.
